DD-21 Blue and Gold Teams Sprint for the Green

Development of the US Navy's Zumwalt-class land-attack destroyer (DD-21) proceeds as the two competing Teams — Blue and Gold — refine their designs. The DD-21 is the US's first keel-up destroyer designed for the post-Cold War world and will enter the fleet as the Spruance-class (DD-963) destroyers and Perry-class (FFG-7) guided-missile frigates are decommissioned. The Blue Team is led by Bath Iron Works (Bath, ME) and Lockheed Martin Government Electronics Systems (Moorestown, NJ); the Gold Team by Ingalls Shipbuilding (Litton Ship Systems, Pascagoula, MS) and Raytheon Systems (Arlington, VA).
