SAAB RECEIVES COUNTERMEASURES DISPENSERS CONTRACT FOR GRIPEN

Saab has secured a SEK 223 million (US$26 million) contract from Sweden's Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for the development and series production of BOL and BOP countermeasures dispensers for the JAS 39 Gripen fighter. The order, which covers work through to 2020, supports development and series production of countermeasures dispensers for chaff and flares for both the current Gripen C/D and the new-generation Gripen E. According to Saab, the FMV order covers the development and manufacture of a new internally installed variant of the BOL dispenser system. Designated as the BOL-700 series, this latest instantiation retains full commonality with existing chaff and infrared BOL payloads, but for the first time enables the launcher equipment to be carried internally so as to have no impact on the radar cross section or aerodynamic performance of the host aircraft.
