On the Justification of Plate Theories in Linear Elasticity Theory Using Exponential Decay Estimates

Plate models are useful for the study of elastic deformations of flat three-dimensional bodies. Because of the small thickness it is possible to replace the three-dimensional elasticity problem by a two-dimensional one posed on the midplane of the body. There are several methods of deriving plate theories. The two most common methods are the projection method (or director theory) and the method of asymptotic expansion.
