The Politics of Theory and the Practice of Critical Librarianship

Critical librarianship has become a predominant site of theory within library and information science (LIS), and it is also where the age-old binary between theory and practice continues to play itself out. LIS possesses a long history of valuing practice over theory, but The Politics of Theory and the Practice of Critical Librarianship successfully demonstrates that the two are equally dependent upon one another, and that theory is essential to practice, the researcher and practitioner are two sides of the same coin, and one can choose to be both a scholar and an activist. None of these things are mutually exclusive within LIS, which becomes increasingly clear in the various chapters presented in this volume.
