Student-centered learning was the pedagogicalapproach that was tried but foundwanting in Charles Martell’s classroom;the experience which he describes in his1972 JELIS article. Persuaded by researchaccounts (Killman, 1972) that studentcenteredteaching was more effective instimulating critical thinking, he sought toapply it to enhance graduate education inlibrary and information science (LIS).
