ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF AERIAL PARTS OF ARGEMONE MEXICANA LINN

摘要

The different extracts of aerial parts of Argemone mexicana Linn were screened for antimicrobial activity against two bacterial strains of both gram positive and gram negative organisms like Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli by two fold serial dilution technique. The result showed that the petroleum ether extract and alcoholic extract of aerial parts of A. mexicana were having significant activity against B. subtilis and E. coli. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of A. mexicana was found to be 500 mg/ml for E. coli and 250 mg/ml for B. subtilis.
