Fluoride Pollution In Ground Water Of Rural Areas Around Angul-talcher Industrial Zone,orissa

Fluoride pollution in 168 ground water samples from the dug wells and tube wells in rural areas within 10 km radius of Angul-Talcher industrial zone was assessed from July 2001 to June 2003.Fluoride concentration in the dug well and tube wells were ranged from 0.66 to 1.77 mg/lit and 0.63 to 1.49 mg/lit,respectively.Besides fluoride(F),other physico-chemical parameters such as pH,turbidity(Turb),total dissolved solids(TDS),electrical conductivity(EC),alkalinity(Alk),total hardness(TH),calcium(Ca),magnesium(Mg),chloride(Cl),nitrate(NQ_3),sulphate(SO_4),chromium (Cr~(6+) and iron(Fe) were analyzed.A systematic statistical analysis showed significant correlation of fluoride with number of parameters namely pH,Alk,Ca,Mg,Cr~(+6),NO_3,TDS,EC and Turb (r > 0.52 for tube well waters) and with pH,Alk and Mg (r > 0.57 for dug well waters).
