OCCURRENCE OF PHYTOPLANKTON IN RELATION TO PHYSICO-CHEMICAL PARAMETERS OF KALAMNURI DAM WATER, KALAMNURI, MAHARASHTRA, INDIA

This investigation was undertaken to study the physico-chemical characteristics and phytoplankton composition of the Kalainnuri dam water. Physico-chamical parameters of Kalamnuri dam water were favourable range for growth of phytoplankton. The phytoplankton community was maximum in summer season and minimum in the monsoon due to high temperature and low turbidty in summer season and vice versa. The composition of the phytoplankton (Racillariophyceae) was dominant (36.2 %) followed by chlorophyce (29.3 %), euglenophyceae (20.4 %) and cynophyceac (14.0). The dominant trend of phytoplankton in the present investigation was Racillariophyceae > Chlorophyceac> euglenophyceae > cynophyceae.
