The Race Between Education and Technology

The authors of this brilliant empirical study Claudia Goldin and Lawrence Katz (Harvard Economics Professors), find that for the first 70 years of the 20th century there was a decline in equality and for the last 30 years the United States has the most unequal distribution of wages and income of any high income country.rnIt has been suggested that between 1915 and 1950 the college wage premium fell sharply. The post war period saw wages growing for all educational levels and there was a period of great prosperity. However, it has been felt there was a great growth in education attainment between 1900 and 1970. While the average graduate in 1970 earned 45% more than high school graduates, these scholars find that there is an increase after almost three decades to 80%.
