At the Crossroads of Post-Communist Modernisation: Russia and China in Comparative Perspective, edited by Christer Pursiainen, presents a study of modernization strategies in Russia and China. The major focus is on changes that have taken place in these two countries over the last two decades following the collapse of the Soviet bloc. However, some references to earlier periods and historical excursions are used in the book in order to present the long-term trajectory of development. The authors follow transformations in Russia and China in three dimensions, including socio-economic development, political system change, and international relations. Naturally, these three dimensions are interconnected. However, the interconnectivity does not stop there. The authors study transformations in Russia and China not separately, but in comparative perspective. A comparison is always difficult when it comes to two systems that differ considerably, sometimes drastically.
