Global Capitalism vs. Leninist Controls: 'Informatization' and E-Government in the People's Republic of China

All articles in this special issue tackle one common set of questions: What impact will the adaptation of policies to foster e-government and "informatization" (xinxihua) have on the nature and logic of China's political economy? Will greater use of information technology gradually foster a more liberal polity? Or can the government and ruling party marshal these technological tools for its own purposes?
