摘要

The traveling solvent zone method has proven to be one of the mos efficient techqniues t grown high-qualtiy centimetric size single crystals of compounds exhibiting non-congruent melting behavior. The method has been sucessfully applied to growth of various 1D and 2D cuprates: superconducting La_2-xSr_xCuO_4, chain cuprates SrCuO_2 and Sr_2CuO_3 and spin-ladder Sr_14Cu_24O_41. Growthj condiions and crystallien pe4rfection assessment of thee crystals are presented and discussed together with data relative to growth by teh floating-zone method of congruent melting spin-Peierls cuprate CuGeO_3.
