Gender and Weil-Being in Europe. Historical and Contemporary Perspectives

The volume is based on papers that were originally presented at a symposium on gender and well-being at the University of Modena in Italy in 2006. These contributions investigate interactions between work, family and public policies in relation to the main topic, i.e., historical changes in gender roles and well-being in Western societies. This publication essentially has two central aims: to monitor the impact of economic and social change on the lives of men and women, using traditional indicators of well-being, such as income, the allocation of household resources, access to services and health status; while also exploring the scope for developing a new concept of well-being, with new social indicators that reflect the circumstances in the lives of both men and women.
