This book certainly delivers what the title promises. However, together with most other books on the European Union, it comes under the shadow of the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty. Luckily the analysis is insightful and remains valid despite the fact that some of the information will no longer be accurate. The author, founder and director of the European Policy Information Centre in London, sets himself the task to introduce the EU to a wide audience, from the high school student and the undergraduate to the professional, in a straightforward, non-specialist language and in a concise, accurate manner.
