External Perceptions of the European Union as a Global Actor

The debate around the external action of the EC/EU has been fed, at least since the 1970s, by such a large number of seminal contributions that this issue has become one the most debated topics in EU studies. Ranging from case-study analysis to theoretical contributions, from works with a focus on its economic dimension to others debating its political behaviour, the amount of academic publications on EU external actorness has been constantly increasing. Yet, resulting from a typically Eurocentric symptom, academic literature on this subject has not focused on the way the EU is seen from the outside.
