摘要

From the outset this volume challenges a number of preconceptions and beliefs around 'anti-globalisation' and consequently is a welcome addition to the theoretical study of globalisation and of the social movements that have emerged in response to it. In this book, Hosseini presents a more nuanced version of his PhD thesis, which was completed at the Australian National University between 2002 and 2006 (p. (ⅹⅵ)). He examines 'the social processes through which identities, ideologies and solidarities are formed and transformed in the global field of resistance against neoliberal globalism' (p. (ⅹⅵ)). Whilst the media and existing literature often categorise resistance as 'anti-globalisation', Hosseini re-labels it as a 'global field of resistance' (p. (ⅹⅵ)), which 'consists of a fresh range of socio-political practices, such as unrest, activism, mobilization, coalitions, daily defiant behavior and attitudes, parliamentary and extra-parliamentary campaigns' (p. (ⅹⅵ)). This theme is developed further with clarification that this resistance 'consists of at least four major ideological visions of which only one can be considered as anti-globalization, while the other three visions are mostly preoccupied with the issue of "global justice'" (p. (ⅹⅵ)). He proceeds by categorising several social movements including Islamic fundamentalism, nationalism and exclusive localism as the anti-globalisation vision, and the rest as: (1) anti-globalist vision, found in environmentalism and post-colonialist feminism; (2) alter-globalisation vision, found in post-socialism and post-anarchism; and (3) alter-globalist vision, found in socialist internationalism, NGO activists with cosmopolitan reformist and social/liberal democratic values (p. 80).
