摘要

Does the 'State' still represent the primary building block of modern political order? How has the 'State' changed considering a rise of 'regions' in Europe and do they provide an alternative locus for managing power, resources, citizenship and representation? These questions could summarize the principal issues addressed by Prof. Keating in his inquiry. The book examines the issue of 'territory' as a new political space and its importance for social and political order, in the context of re-scaling, namely 'the process by which systems of social regulation, collective action, representation and legitimation are migrating to new territorial levels' (ⅸ). To answer these questions, Prof. Keating takes readers through a fascinating and rigorous theoretical journey that touches upon the core topics of Political Science, from political dynamics to institutions, policy-making, representation and norms.
