The Contemporary Politics of Gender in the Media Spotlight: An Introduction

Each year, the Journal of Communication Inquiry has a special theme issue to focus in-depth on a particular topic selected by the outgoing managing editor.For the 2013 theme issue,I wanted to devote the journal to examining the contemporary politics of gender and the many forms that this can take in the media.While this certainly encompasses the widely recognized "War on Women," it also includes conceptualizations of gender roles in the public eye - ranging from U.S. politics to gender debates and issues surrounding women's bodies around the world.
