HIGH LEVELS OF electrostatic charges are Often generate on web materials as they are transported through the coating process. These charges not only affect the quality of the coating but present a serious safety hazard where solvent-laden coatings are use. An electrostatic discharge (ESD) event, occur- ring in or near the oater, can produce sufficient energy to ignite inflammable mixtures resulting in fire or explosion.
