Strategy execution in public sectors: empirical evidence from Belgium

The appropriate strategy execution is of great value in virtually all social and corporate organizations. While formulating a strategy is critical, it is not as vital as execution in realizing the overall strategic objectives. Studies have demonstrated that the capability to implement a strategy is more important than the quality of the strategic plan itself. For business practitioners, it does not matter how well thought through a strategy is if it is not carried out in such a way as to realize the potential benefits. Accordingly, an increasing number of studies attempt to determine the nature of the relationship between strategy formulation and execution. However, the execution of well-formulated strategies continues to be problematic.
