Strategy war games: how business can outperform the competition

The bane assurance war game framework demonstrated that this approach can add substantial foresight in helping to refine the strategic analysis and planning process. While a business war game is useful to help uncover internal capabilities, it can also complement the development of business foresight. It is a vehicle through which the development of internal strengths and limitations coupled with external foresight generated through scenario analysis can be conducted within a single exercise. It can also serve as the basis for a continuous capability and foresight analysis process. By engaging a range of role-playing participants actively in a dynamic strategic simulation, business war gaming has been shown to offer great potential in challenging existing mental models, foster organisational learning and develop actions needed to implement strategy in a dynamic and complex business environment.
