Today's standards of education often look past the importance of learning through practice; however, knowledge acquired in applied environments is equally, if not more impactful than that gained in purely academic settings. Practicing Communication Ethics: Development, Discernment, and Decision Making, written by Paula S. Tompkins, acknowledges the value of learning through practice, which is demonstrated in her applied approach to communication ethics. The author designed this textbook for university students studying ethics in the field of communication; hence, almost all of the examples used to illustrate definitions or concepts are demonstrated through cases that are highly relatable to this demographic. Each chapter commences with a brief hypothetical scenario involving dilemmas that spark the reader's ethical reflection, successfully illuminating core concepts through intellectually engaging the reader.
