摘要

Although numerous studies that test for fits between generic strategy and a variety of organizational and environmental characteristics exist, little research has considered the role that these organizational and environmental factors may play in the development of a strategy. This longitudinal study of large retail department stores examines the notion that generic strategies are formulated in response to management uncertainties about competitors, customers, and the environment.
