Health Industry Political Action Committee Contributions to U.S. Senators

This paper examines the relationship between political action committee (PAC) contributions from sectors of the health care industry and membership on relevant Senate committees during the time period 2005-2010. We find strong evidence that membership on the Senate Finance Committee is positively related to PA C contributions from all sectors of the health care industry, but membership on the Senate Health Committee is positively related only to PAC contributions from the pharmaceutical industry and health professionals. Thus, we provide more evidence that Senate committee membership matters to heath care PACs just as PACs value committee membership in the House.
