The Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists: Review of the Professions Supplementary to Medicine Act 1960

1. Due regard to be paid to the private sector. 2. A regulatory framework to be retained. 3. Protection of title of "chiropodist" and all other relevant titles/descriptions. No restriction on development of scope of practice. 4. EU and overseas practitioners to meet UK standard in order to be permitted to practise in UK. 5. Mechanisms to allow unregistered practitioners to qualify for state registration - tests of competence, examinations etc. 6. Existing satisfactory working arrangements between Board and Society to continue. 7. Majority of Board members to be elected chiropodists (12). Medical and consumer representation on each Board. 8. CPSM to lose supervisory function, and to act as "service company" for the individual Boards. Each Board to have direct contact with Privy Council. 9. Revised electoral arrangements for the Board. Abolition of "alternates". 10. Revise and update disciplinary arrangements. 11. Mechanisms for assistants/helpers to achieve state registration. Existing standards to be maintained. 12. Boards to be permitted to introduce requirement for continuing professional education as a condition of registration, and for provisional registration for the newly qualified. 13. Consideration of mandatory professional indemnity insurance, and of minimum standards of practice as a condition of continuing registration.
