MPEG-2 Chip Set Suits Compact, Inexpensive Digital TV Encoders

Television technology is becoming increasingly sophisticated. This was true even before the start of digital broadcasting. Now developers are racing to devise and release encoders for a wide variety of TV systems, including high-definition sets and dual-format sets. Amid these technical and market trends, Mitsubishi Electric Corp. has developed an MPEG-2 chip set for encoders in digital TV broadcasting. The chip set is one of the first to contain on one chip a coding LSI that performs standard-definition-TV (SDTV) video coding, audio coding, and media multiplexing.
