The LSI chip set for BS digital TV system

Digital broadcasting via broadcasting satellites (BS) will be launched in December 2000. Broadcasts will include HDTV (high definition television) in addition to conventional SDTV (standard definition television), with superior picture quality and more services than ever before. However, the HDTV receiver's high cost, due to HD displays and high system costs, could prevent digital TV from becoming popular. Therefore, we have developed a new technique for HDTV to SDTV video down-decoding. We have developed a cost-effective system LSI chip set of 5 chips for BS digital TV, targeting the receiver at the popular price range for SDTV sets and set-top boxes (STB) This chip set covers most of the functions necessary for a digital broadcasting receiver, and enables receivers in a popular price range.
