Strange and Familiar: Britain as Revealed by International Photographers

Gloeggt er gests auga(o), or 'clear is the eye of the guest' goes the Icelandic proverb, a sentiment that seems to have informed Strange and Familiar. Consisting mostly of work by foreign photographers turning their lenses on Britain from the 1930s to the 1970s, the expectation is that we will find that '... aspects of British life are both strange and familiar to us all'. However, the Exhibition does more than this, though how much is inherent in the photographs and how much is curatorial choice is open to interpretation.
