摘要

The outstanding scholar and science organizer Academician Vladimir Vasilevich Struminskii, a member of the Editorial Board of our journal for forty years, was born on 29 April 1914 in Orenburg. His father, Vasilii Yakovlevich Struminskii, was a theorist and historian of pedagogy, a doctor of pedagogical sciences, Professor and Corresponding Member of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences. Striving for independence, after completing seven years of schooling, he worked in the Kazan machine repair factories as a metalworker and turner. In 1931, he arrived in Moscow and went to work in the "Dinamo" factory as a turner. After completing his studies at the "Rabfak" workers' school in the factory in 1933, he was accepted into the physical faculty of Moscow State University, where he completed his studies in 1938 with a red diploma, and entered post-graduate training in the x-ray structural laboratory of the Scientific Research Institute for Physics at Moscow State University, headed at that time by Professor S. T. Konobeyevskii. At the end of 1940, he had completed his candidate's dissertation work "On the electronic theory of solids. A quantum-mechanical calculation of ordered β-brass" ahead of schedule in which he successfully obtained for the first time a solution of Schroedinger's equation for the crystal lattice of an alloy consisting of different atoms. The effects of the redistribution of the valence electron charge density in intermetallides predicted in this work have only recently received direct experimental confirmation using the Mossbauer effect and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results of this outstanding work remain topical up to the present time and are of great scientific and practical importance in connection with the search for and investigation of alloys possessing unique physical characteristics. In May 1941 after successfully defending his candidate's dissertation, he was sent to work at the Professor N. Ye Zhukovskii Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI). One of the most important problems in aviation during the Second World War was the construction of wings that were very reliable and ensured the safety of the flight in the case of high near-critical angles of attack.
