Since the first National Conference on City Planning (NCCP) in 1909, the Journal of the American Planning Association has been self-published by its parent organization, maintaining an outstanding reputation over that long time period.Recently, however, electronic search, access, and publishing have been altering the world of scholarly journals. Beginning with this issue, JAPA will for the first time be published by a commercial publisher of academic journals, Routledge/Taylor & Francis, although it is still owned by APA.
