It is interesting to note that Investing in Democracy went to press just at the point of the election of President Barack Obama. Sirianni focuses on the perceived need to renew and reinvigorate American democracy through collaborative problem solving between citizens and government. Moreover, as Sirianni was the coordinator of the collaborative governance cluster of the Obama Campaign's Urban Policy Committee, there is a sense that the issues explored in the book are of more than academic interest.
