Salt curing systems, despite their cost and ease advantages, suffer heavily on environmental counts. The ill effects of the system need no emphasis. The deteriorating effect of electrolytes discharged by the use of salt by the tanning indus- try on the quality of soil and ground water is realised now more than ever before.
