EFFECT OF ENPROSTIL ON GASTRIC ENDOCRINE DYNAMICS IN THE LONG-TERM ADMINISTRATION OF FAMOTIDINE

The effects of the strong acidity counteracting action by the long-term famotidine administration and the combined effect of enprostil on the gastric endocrine dynamics were studied using rats. Hypergastrinemia, gastrin cell (G cell) hyperplasia, and enterochromaffin like cell hyperplasia in stomach were observed after the four-week forced administration of famotidine (40 mg/kg/ day). On the other hand, changes in the level of plasma somatostatin and the number of gastric somatostatin cell (D cell0 were not observed, so that the condition of the stimulation and inhibition on the gastric acid secretion was found to be unbalanced.
