2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidin-1-ylthiyl, the sulfur analogue of TEMPO, as an initiator for the controlled radical polymerisation of styrene

2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidin-1-ylthiyl (TEMPS), the sulfur analogue of the well known TEMPO free radical, hasnbeen investigated as an initiator/moderator for the controlled/living radical polymerisation (CRP) of styrene.nPolymerisations were carried out at 125 u0001C using benzoyl peroxide and AIBN as conventional thermal initiators. Thenresults show that TEMPS has a significant effect on the polymerisations but unlike CRP carried out using TEMPOnthey do not follow a ‘living’ pathway.
