The Advent of Odakyu's Type 50000 Romance Cars

The Odakyu Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (referred to below as Odakyu) has had two sets of Vault Super Express (VSE) train manufactured. Each consists of ten cars newly developed type 50000 Romance Cars for passenger transport to Hakone Town, a Japanese sightseeing spot popular with visitors both from Japan and abroad. To create a ceiling with unprecedented height and produce the most uncramped space possible, Odakyu revived the articulated car structure and observation seats once used in type 10000 Romance Cars. Odakyu applied the latest technologies and pursued a high ride index and superior ride comfort in developing the train set. This paper introduces the concepts of development along with an outline of 50000 Romance Cars.
