Type HD300 Hybrid Shunting Locomotive

JR Freight is leading the "Modal Shift" a campaign of MLIT, aiming to further reduce environmental impact. Using innovative technologies: a hybrid system, a highly efficient motor, and a lithium-ion battery, we have developed a new shunting locomotive that reduces the environmental load in freight stations. We have conducted long-term tests for one year, including a high-temperature endurance test in Tokyo in midsummer and a cold-area test in Sapporo in midwinter, and verified the very low fuel consumption of the new locomotive and the high reliability of the new system.
