The entire Kyushu Shinkansen was opened in 2011. At the same time, this line was connected to the Sanyo Shinkansen, and mutual through-operation between the two lines commenced. The traveling time between Kyushu and Kansai region was greatly reduced. The Kyushu Shinkansen is like a vertical trunk that lets people travel quickly in Kyushu. But a line can only connect points, those stations where the Shinkansen stops. By itself, one line is not enough to revitalize the entirety of Kyushu with tourism. What the rest of the island needs are horizontal branches emanating from the vertical trunk, so that tourists can visit the rest of the region.
