%The cross-in-square is one of the most common and widely distributed architectural forms in the Middle Byzantine period (9th-12th centuries), both inside and outside the Byzantine Empire. However, few previous studies took into account its locational characteristics. This paper aims to grasp the locality of two lineages, based on the architectural configuration or three-dimensional shapes and construction methods of the churches. One lineage is at the centre of the Byzantine world with original and derivative architectural configurations located in different areas, while the other is on the periphery and its original and derived configurations are in the same area.
