In September 2020 the US Coast Guard (USCG) published a 'Strategic Outlook' for countering illegal, unreported and un-regulated (IUU) fishing. The strategy set out policy pillars and operational steps to take, including building co-operation with national and international actors addressing the issue. "Fisheries are very much on the minds of coastguards and navies around the world," Rear Admiral Scott Clendenin, USCG assis-tant commandant for response policy, told Janes. Coastguards and navies, alongside government and non-government stakehold-ers, are jointly planning and patrolling to address a complex threat affecting maritime and wider economic, national, and interna-tional security.
