The intergovernmental body known as the Regional Co-operation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) has reported a total of 28 maritime piracy-related incidents for the period spanning January-June 2019, a decrease of 32% over the 41 incidents reported in the same period of 2018. Among the countries in the region that have seen marked improvements include Bangladesh and Vietnam, where no incidents were reported over the six-month period.
