Saab finalises NLT torpedo prototype for next phase of in-water testing

Sweden's Ny Laett Torped/New Lightweight Torpedo (NLT) will progress to a second round of in-water testing at its Motala freshwater range on Lake Vat-tern in early 2019, manufacturer Saab has confirmed. The trials will be conducted using a second prototype that will embody all the features of the production torpedo. Saab is developing the NLT under an SEK1.53 billion (USD188 million) contract awarded by the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) in May 2016 as a replacement for the Royal Swedish Navy's (RSwN's) current Torpedo 45.
