The Royal Malaysian Navy's Newport-class tank landing ship, KD Sri Inder-apura, was gutted by a fire on 8 October.rnThe blaze broke out in the cargo hold at 6.23am, soon after the 8,450-ton vessel had left Lumut naval base to take stores to Naval Region 2 Headquarters at Sepanggar Bay, East Malaysia.rnEfforts to contain the fire failed, apparently due to the fact that it had damaged the ship's electrical generation system, cutting power to the water pumps. All 105 personnel onboard were evacuated and the fire was extinguished eight hours later, leaving the ship in danger of sinking.
