Turkey Is to acquire six Type 214 submarines from Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft (HDW) and its commercial partner MarlneForce International (MFI) under a contract signed on 2 July.rnWorth an estimated EUR2.5 billion (USD3.96 billion), the contract provides for the delivery by the German shipbuilder of six material packages to Turkey, which will build the submarines at Golciik Naval Shipyard (GNSY) near Izmit.rnEach package will Include a torpedo tube set, an air-Independent propulsion (AIP) fuel cell plant and a torpedo countermeasures system, among other Items. The first boat is expected to be handed over to Turkish Naval Forces Command In 2015 with delivery of the remaining boats completing in 2020. Defence Minister Vecdl Goniil said In July 2008rnthat Turkish industrial participation is expected to reach about 80 per cent of the contract, with approximately 20 systems and subsystems produced and integrated locally.
