Etihad Ship Building (ESB), a joint venture between Fincantieri, Melara Middle East and Al Fattan Ship Industry, officially began operations at its new facilities based at the Al Fattan shipyard in Al Sadr Port, Abu Dhabi, on 6 March. Established in September 2010 to undertake new-build and upkeep activities, ESB's first task maintenance on the first two of four Iraqi Navy offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) originally built for Iraq by Fincantieri. A contract for the remaining pair is expected to follow in mid-May.
