Med matters: International security in the Mediterranean Sea

Activities in the world's major oceans often dominate political thinking and strategic postures in relation to the use of the sea. The global strategic spotlight today is swinging back and forth between the Asia-Pacific region and re-emergent security challenges in the North Atlantic, with the Gulf and Indian Ocean playing a prominent role in between. In this context, it is easy to overlook other physically smaller but strategically critical international maritime arenas.
