Revamped tunnel tests scale model Stunner interceptor

A newly refurbished test tunnel at the Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC) has been used to conduct time-sensitive aerodynamic testing of a scale model of the Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Stunner short-range missile interceptor being developed jointly by the Israel Missile Defense Organization and the US Missile Defense Agency (MDA), writes Doug Richardson.rnDavid Carlson is lead test engineer with Raytheon, which has partnered with Rafael to produce some of the Stunner components and subsystems. He said: "We needed to get aerodynamic data up to Mach 5.5, and this tunnel and Boeing's at St Louis, Missouri, are the only tunnels that can hit that and still give us good angles of attack."
