Raytheon Technical Services has teamed with General Dynamics, ASRC Aerospace, ARES, Schafer and World Technical Services to bid for the US Air Force's upcoming Launch and Test Range System (LTRS) Integrated Support Contract (LISC). LTRS consists of ground-based command destruct, communications, data handling, flight safety, optical, planning and scheduling, radar, surveillance, timing and sequencing, telemetry, and weather subsystem assets located at the Eastern Range (Patrick Air Force Base [AFB], Florida), and the Western Range (Vandenberg AFB, California). These subsystems are used to support missile tests and spacecraft launches. Much of the equipment supporting both ranges was installed during the 1960s and 70s. Multiple upgrade programmes are under way including the Range Standardization and Automation programme, Instrumentation Modernization projects, and depot-support projects intended to reduce operations and sustainment costs. These projects will replace approximately 20 per cent of the system.
