Improved Agni II ballistic missile fails first flight-test

India's first attempt to test an improved version of its Agni II intermediate-range ballistic missile ended in failure when the vehicle departed from its planned trajectory soon after being launched from a road-mobile launcher at the Integrated Test Range in Wheeler Island at around 1000 h local time on 10 December 2010, writes Doug Richardson. No announcement of the trial has been made by the Indian Ministry of Defence, but, according to local press reports, the missile began to drift off course within the first 30 seconds of flight.
