摘要

The US Space Force is boosting investments in a new space-based sensor system meant to detect missile launches around the world. In fiscal year 2021 (FY 2021) the Pentagon requested USD2.48 billion for its Next-Generation Space-Based Overhead Persistent Infrared (Next-Gen OPIR) system. This included USD2.319 billion for research and development and USD160.9 million for procurement. The Pentagon described Next-Gen OPIR as "the follow-on system to the Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) that will notionally field three satellites in Geosynchronous Earth Orbit (GEO), two Polar satellites in Highly Elliptical Orbit (HEO), and an integrated centralized ground station". The system is meant to address "adversary advances in missile technology and counter-space systems with added resiliency features".
