A combined terrestrial and space-borne networked communications system was presented at the AUSA 2008 show in Washington, DC, in October, writes Rupert Pengelley. The developmental system incorporated the BAE Systems Electronics & Integrated Solutions (E&IS) Tactical Warfighter Network Node (TWNN) and Personal Network Node (PNN). TWNN is the product of a development project begun in 2006 and BAE Systems E&IS recently completed a 10-node Technology Readiness Level [TRL] 5 demonstration of the system in the Mojave Desert It is now preparing to conduct a follow-on TRL 6 demonstration at Fort Bliss, Texas, in the second quarter of 2009 at the behest of the US Army Communications-Electronics Research Development and Engineering Center (CERDEC).
